Paramount is Making an Action Man Movie

Paramount will develop a movie based on the Action Man line of action figures. While Action Man might not ring any bells for readers in the United States, the action figure line is largely considered the United Kingdom’s version of G.I. Joes. James Bobin (The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted) is slated to direct the movie with a script from Simon Farnaby (Paddington 2).

The Action Man line was originally released in 1966 by Hasbro. The figures made their debut in Australia and the United Kingdom. Action Man has made its way to the United States from time to time, typically as a cross promotion with G.I. Joe figures.

Much like G.I. Joes, Action man has seen its own line of animated television series, though the first series, released in 1995, missed the children’s animation boom that spanned the 1970s and 1980s. The series followed an amnesia-stricken Action Man, a member of an elite multinational task force called Action Force, as he attempted to track down the elusive Dr. X, an international terrorist. The animated series was rebooted in 2000, this time portraying Action Man as an extreme sports athlete with a double identity.

No casting information or release date for the Action Man movie has been made available at this time.
