Natalie Portman returned to Saturday Night Live, but this time she reprised her role as Padmé Amidala.
Known for her roles in Black Swan and the MCU’s first two Thor movies, Portman made a name for herself as the mother of Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker in George Lucas’ Star Wars prequels from 1999 to 2005. While it’s no secret that Padmé tragically died during the events of Revenge of the Sith, even death couldn’t stop Portman bringing the character back to life one last time.

When Portman last hosted SNL back in 2006, she made a memorable video dubbed ‘Natalie’s Rap,’ and it seems that not much has changed in the past 12 years. This time, Beck Bennett replaces Chris Parnell as the interviewer, but it doesn’t take long before Portman is dropping expletives while updating her lyrics with modern references to motherhood. Easily the highlight though, is when fans get to see Portman step into her iconic Amidala attire all over again.
When Bennett asks if Portman has seen Disney’s next generation of Star Wars movies, the actress soon descends into her own parody of Beyonce’s ‘7/11′ complete with a Lucasfilm twist. Portman joyfully pokes fun at the fact that Lucas’ prequel series represents a big divide among Star Wars fandom. Demanding “say something f*cking nice about Jar Jar Binks,” she references the maligned Gungan that plagued The Phantom Menace and was slowly phased out of the following films.
The Academy Award-winner seems to have distanced herself from her years as Padmé since leaving the Star Wars series and even declined to send a message for the franchise’s 40th anniversary last year. However, if the SNL sketch shows us anything, it is that at least she can see the lighter side of it now and poke fun at her time behind all that pale makeup and ornamental headdresses.
