Bryan Singer No Longer Legion Executive Producer

Bryan Singer is no longer an executive producer on FX’s Marvel-based Legion, according to online reports.

As reported by Deadline on Friday, Singer asked for his name to be removed from the show, as related by Legion TV series creator Noah Hawley at the show’s TCA panel.

This news follows after reports surfaced last month of Singer allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy in 2003. According to Deadline, 20th Century Fox Television is also looking into the possibility of removing Singer as an executive producer on The Gifted, though that’s a more complicated move given that Singer directed that show’s pilot, “which contractually guarantees him an EP credit on the series.”

Hawley told Deadline that Singer’s creative involvement in the critically acclaimed Legion was minimal. “Very early on in the conception of the show, I met him a couple of times,” Hawley told the outlet. “He was interested in directing the pilot, but once I stepped in to direct, I haven’t spoken to him since that moment. Really, he was a name on the screen.”

Though Singer may not have been much of a presence in Legion, he’s been a part of Fox’s live-action X-Men efforts since directing the franchise’s original film, released in 2000. He subsequently directed 2003’s X2, 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past and 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

The alleged 2003 assault is not the first time sexual misconduct allegations have been made against Singer. In 2014, Michael Egan filed suit against Singer alleging that the director sexually assaulted him when he was a minor. The suit was later dropped.

Singer was fired last month from Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, due to reported on-set behavior including showing up late and conflict with star Rami Malek.

Season 2 of Legion is scheduled to debut in April, with no specific premiere date yet announced.
