Star Wars Will Crush the Box Office (Yet Again)

Despite fan backlash, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to retain its number one spot at the box office in its second weekend, beating out Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Hugh Jackman’s The Greatest Showman.

Having already surpassed $500 million at the worldwide box office, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to bring in another $102 million over the course of four days — Thursday through Sunday. While that’s lower than Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ second weekend ($149 million), it is ahead of last year’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’s second weekend ($96 million). Should the estimates hold, that’ll push the film just shy of $400 million domestically come Monday.

The film is holding off newcomers Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Pitch Perfect 3 and The Greatest Showman, with the Johnson-led Jumanji targeting a $60+ million opening over the four day weekend, and Pitch Perfect 3 and The Greatest Showman looking to finish around $35 million and $16 million, respectively.
