SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for “Rewind,” the latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
In “Rewind,” the latest episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Lance Hunter helped Leo Fitz on his way to the future. After Fitz was imprisoned for the havoc wreaked by Aida and her LMDs, Lance broke into a secure military facility and helped his friend escape. Together, the two were able to piece together what had happened to Director Phil Coulson and the rest of the team, which led to one inevitable conclusion: Fitz had to go to the future to save his friends, leaving Hunter behind to prepare for the grim days ahead.
Speaking to CBR, Lance Hunter actor Nick Blood addressed his character’s future on the series. He also weighed in on Hunter’s reaction to Fitz’s risky decision, what kind of send-off he would want for his character and more.

CBR: The episode left the future pretty open-ended for Hunter. What are the odds we’ll see him again this season?
Blood: Who knows, really? Who knows! You know what it’s like with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Anything’s possible and things change… There’s all sorts of surprises. I think you never know. I don’t want to rule it out, but I think Hunter has still got to keep his head down somewhat since his banishment, so we’ll see.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has done some crazy things, but sending Fitz into the future may be one of their craziest. What do you think was running through Hunter’s mind in that final scene?
I think, primarily, he’s looking at his friend — who he loves — and he’s worried about him and I guess probably he’s still got that idea of the older Fitz, that was slightly more boyish and slightly more naive and so on, whereas this is new Fitz. So I think he just has to accept it and I think he realizes that — in the moment — he has to respect it and let Fitz do what he’s got to do. It’s kind of like a slightly brotherly relationship and he realizes that his little brother has grown up and… he has to let him get on with it, I think.
If you could design the an ending or send-off for Hunter, what would it look like?
I think Lance would like a big party, with probably quite a lot of Benbeery beer and all his mates around him — and then Bobbi probably turns up at some point. She’d have to turn up before they drank too much alcohol because I think those two and alcohol probably aren’t a very good mix.
