SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for “Crisis on Earth-X, Part 3,” the third episode of this year’s Arrowverse crossover.
The Ray has just made the jump from animation to live-action. In “Crisis on Earth-X,” this year’s Arrowverse crossover, The Ray and his partner Citizen Cold rescued Green Arrow, The Flash and their friends from certain death. In the process, they revealed their romance and journeyed to Earth-1 to help stop Dark Archer, Overgirl and their Nazi forces.
During their brief time in the camp on Earth-X, Jax turned and saw Ray, who wore a striped uniform with a pink triangle on his chest. Asked what he had done, Ray said, “I loved the wrong person.”

Suddenly, guards flooded the area. When Barry asked what was happening, Ray informed him that it was “roundup time,” which didn’t quite answer the question. Soon after, Quentin Lance’s Earth-X doppelganger arrived on the scene. He demanded that all of the heroes — including Ray — be brought outside the gates to be shot and killed.
On their way towards a ditch, Green Arrow and the others attempted to fight off their Nazi captors. However, the metahuman dampener collars around their necks also acted like shock collars, which stopped them in their tracks. Defenseless, they were forced to line up in front of the ditch, where they waited for Lance to order his soldiers to shoot them.
Just as Lance told his men to aim, a blast from a cold gun struck the soldiers, causing them to falter. The camera then panned to Citizen Cold, wearing his signature glasses and parka, who said, “I hate fire.”

“About time!” Ray cried with a grin. A fight ensued, with the Arrowverse heroes rushing forward to subdue the Nazis. Citizen Cold was able to push the Nazis back, allowing them all to escape into the ditch for cover. “You were cutting it close,” Ray scolded, only for Cold to respond, “I thought it was great timing! I really enjoyed the party.”
Cold then reached forward to take off Ray’s collar. Ray told them to look away, before shooting into the sky with his light powers. Once airborne, Ray was able to swiftly take care of the Nazis. He then invited them back to their base, where the Arrowverse heroes conducted their plan to return to their Earth.
When the Arrowverse heroes revealed they were from Earth-1, Cold glanced over at Ray and said, “Golly.” Ray then revealed he was also from Earth-1, which meant he knows how to get back: through the temporal gateway the Nazis had created.

Ray and Cold continued to discuss how they could help the Arrowverse’s heroes as Ray got changed out of his camp uniform. Cold insisted that they help the heroes, against Ray’s judgement. “Leo, why are you pushing this?” Ray asked. “We have fought and bled and sacrificed for this war, and then these strangers show up and you’re willing to throw everything away for them? The fate of the world is at stake.”
“So are the lives of their loved ones,” Leo retorted. “Tease me all you want for being sentimental, but these heroes would risk everything for the people they love, just like I would. For you.” The two then shared a passionate kiss, which made Ray’s facade crack. With a smile, he said, “You know I can’t say no when you look at me like that.” With that, the two Earth-X heroes agreed to help Team Arrowverse get back to Earth-1.

Ray will star in his own animated series Freedom Fighters: The Ray, which is part of Arrowverse continuity. In his series, Raymond “Ray” Terrill is a gay reporter who discovered that government scientists were working on a secret project to transform light into a weapon of mass destruction. However, before he could report his findings, Ray was exposed to a “genetic light bomb” that didn’t kill him, but instead imbued him with light-based superpowers. Dubbing himself The Ray, he’s recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight injustice.
This year’s four-part crossover “Crisis on Earth-X” will air across two nights, beginning Monday, Nov. 27 with Supergirl and Arrow (on a special night for one week only) and concluding Tuesday, Nov. 28 with The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.
