Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is one of the most popular MMOs today, even a decade after it was initially released. In fact, it once reached a state of such popularity that its developers had to temporarily suspend all sales because players were experiencing increasingly long wait times due to an extreme amount of play hours exceeding their server capacity. The game's success story is unlike that of any other MMORPG, largely because not many have fallen as far as Final Fantasy XIV did and managed to get back up. The general rule of thumb is that if an MMO fails within its first two weeks, it likely won't survive much longer after that—and if it does manage to survive, it certainly doesn't thrive. Final Fantasy XIV did, however, but not just because it's a great game; it's also because of the developer's relationship with their fans.
