The source material for One-Punch Man may be the webcomic, but the manga has taken certain liberties in tweaking the series’ narrative.
One-Punch Man has become a household name after its great success. It is, after all, very effective meme material. It also has a lot of ludicrous moments, most of which satirize or parody common superhero tropes. Even at present, its newer manga updates continue to make waves and entertain its loyal fanbase.
While One-Punch Man may be known as a manga or anime series, its true source material is actually a webcomic made by ONE. It’s been adapted into a manga series by Yusuke Murata, the mangaka of Eyeshield 21. Murata does a great job of giving the series a visual overhaul. However, the art style isn’t the only thing he changed. There are also noticeable differences between the two media, though everything is approved by ONE.
10 The OPM Webcomic Does Not Show The Effects Of Saitama’s Power
One of the few times that the readers of One-Punch Man have witnessed Saitama’s true capabilities is when Genos asks the bald hero for a sparring match. Despite going at his master at full power, Saitama didn’t even bat an eye. When Genos finally finished his onslaught of attacks, Saitama returned the favor. However, he stopped just before hitting his pupil.
In the manga, the blast effect of Saitama’s punch, despite stopping himself, was shown, which ultimately convinced Genos of how powerful Saitama was. However, the webcomic didn’t have this scene. Saitama simply walked away after executing his move.
9 Puri-Puri Prisoner’s Majestic Angel Wings Are Absent In The OPM Webcomic
Puri-Puri Prisoner may not seem like a dependable hero, but he pulls through when the going gets tough. One such scenario is when the Deep Sea King emerged.
The monster threatened the surface, causing devastating damage, and Puri-Puri Prisoner was one of the heroes who faced it. During their bout, Puri-Puri unleashed an onslaught of punches. But before that, he first made a pose in the manga, wherein angel wings seemed to have sprouted from his back. This wasn’t present in the webcomic.
8 Boros Kicking Saitama To The Moon Is A Manga Exclusive
Yet another epic moment that happened during one of Saitama’s matches was when Lord Boros kicked him to the Moon. It’s the perfect scene to showcase how powerful the alien invader is, as well as once again putting Saitama’s strength on display.
But while Boros let Saitama have it in the webcomic, Boros didn’t send him to the Moon. Boros simply attacked Saitama non-stop until Saitama ultimately retaliated and defeated the alien invader.
7 The Holy Order Of The Sword Doesn’t Exist In The OPM Webcomic
The Holy Order of the Sword was the organization Atomic Samurai belonged in. It was supposed to be the gathering of the mightiest swordsmen within the world of One-Punch Man. Unfortunately, most of them met their end during the fight with the Monster Association.
Although only Atomic Samurai lives among the other swordmasters, it’s now closer to the source material as the Holy Order of the Sword doesn’t exist in the webcomic.
6 The Entire Super Fight Tournament Is Only Added In The OPM Manga
Saitama once joined a martial arts tournament, but not for the sake of glory. Just as any fan of the series would have guessed, Saitama did it for the prize money. He even impersonated Charanko in order to qualify.
By taking part in this tournament, Saitama was kept busy as the Monster Association was wreaking havoc outside. The tournament eventually got infiltrated by monsters, forcing it to an abrupt end. Unfortunately, the entire arc isn’t featured in the webcomic. It’s also just a manga exclusive.
5 Saitama Vs. Orochi Didn’t Exist As Well
Another one of the highlights during the Hero Association’s fight against the Monster Association was Saitama’s battle against the Monster King Orochi. Unsurprisingly, Saitama ended their battle with a single punch.
Surprisingly, however, this battle didn’t actually happen in the source material. To be more specific, Monster King Orochi and a good number of monsters that partook in the war were only added in the manga, increasing the scale of the clash between the two factions.
4 King Didn’t Kill Any Monster Through Fear Alone In The OPM Webcomic
King might be basking in glory, but every One-Punch Man reader knows that the S-Class hero is useless in a fight. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean he is useless in-universe. In fact, King’s funniest running gag is his King’s Engine — the sound of his shivering as he gets scared witless.
In one manga-exclusive scene, this King’s Engine even helped the hero out. After one unfateful encounter with a monster, the King’s Engine began. The monster realized who King was and got scared to death. This was the first time King actually killed a monster, and the scene would then forever be remembered as his most epic moment.
3 Monster Cells Are Just In The Manga
One efficient way the Monster Association increased its numbers for the war was the use of Monster Cells. By feeding them to humans, they easily turned them into monsters, granting them increased strength and power. There were even notable characters who voluntarily joined the cause.
Monster Cells, however, wasn’t part of the webcomic. There were numerous ways to transform into a monster in the source material, but consuming monster cells wasn’t part of them. It was perhaps added just to quickly increase the monsters’ ranks.
2 The OPM Webcomic Gives Black Spermatozoon A Multicell Sperm Form
Black Spermatozoon was one of the most iconic Monster Association executives, especially with its various forms. Interestingly, the monster somehow survived the chaos and even managed to get adopted by Saitama. There is, however, one form that is unique to the webcomic.
The webcomic features the Multicell Sperm form, which was the result of a million Black Sperm merging. This was the form before reaching Gold Sperm. The manga skipped this form altogether and went straight to Golden Spermatozoon.
1 Saitama And The Underground Gang Didn’t Meet Blast In The OPM Webcomic
The trio of Saitama, Flashy Flash, and Oculette captivated One-Punch Man readers with their unexpected chemistry. They went deeper into the Monster Association’s headquarters, even discovering God. When they did, they were brought up by Blast.
In the OPM webcomic, however, only Flashy Flash and Saitama reached the depths. And the one who brought them out wasn’t the No. 1 Hero, but the lovable Puri-Puri Prisoner.
