The Boys‘ Vought International shared a tribute to Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) in the aftermath of the events of Prime Video series’ Season 3 finale.
The official Twitter account for Vought International posted an in-universe tweet in remembrance of Maeve, who the public believes died at the hands of Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) in the Season 3 finale. “It’s with a heavy heart that we remember Vought’s most courageous lesbian, who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting us from a radicalized Soldier Boy,” the tweet reads. “A trailblazer for women everywhere, there was no one more deserving of the title ‘Brave Maeve.’ Rest in Pride, Queen!”
The Boys‘ Twitter mockingly replied to Vought’s tweet by writing, “Math was never our strong suit, but think The Seven might need a rebrand,” a reference to the superhero group now having less than seven members.
Though presumed dead to the rest of the world, it is revealed at the end of “The Instant White-Hot Wild” that Maeve survived Soldier Boy’s explosion, and was reunited with her former ex-girlfriend Elena (Nicola Correia-Damude). In a recent interview, showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that the plan was to always give Maeve a “happy ending,” as opposed to adapting her gruesome end from the comics.
“We’re well aware of the super irritating trend of killing off queer characters, and we’re dedicated to not doing that,” Kripke said. “So then it became about, ‘Well, can we explore that from a meta way and play with the audience’s expectation a little bit and present that big sacrifice moment that happens way too many times?'” Kripke also confirmed that Maeve will make a reappearance before the end of The Boys.
Maeve wasn’t the first of The Seven to receive recognition from Vaught International following Season 3, with The Deep (Chace Crawford) recently being named Vought’s Employee of the Month. This is a title he likely earned following his assassination of presidential candidate Dakota Bob Singer’s running mate, allowing Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) to take the spot as potential future vice president.
In a previous interview, Doumit addressed whether or not her character would find redemption in a future season of The Boys following her alliance with Homelander. According to the actor, while Victoria Neuman still has “a good measurement of what is good and what is bad,” the possibility for redemption is unclear, “because on a show like The Boys, I mean, every character’s introduction and progress is kind of like a baptism of fire.”
