The Boys Recruits Starlight to the Team

In the Season 3 finale of Prime Video’s The Boys, a key character officially joins the team after working with them for a long time.

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for The Boys Season 3, Episode 8, “The Instant White-Hot Wild,” which released Friday on Prime Video.

Annie January/Starlight is officially a member of The Boys.

In the latest episode of the Prime Video series, “The Instant White-Hot Wild,” January successfully works with the team’s members to oppose Billy Butcher and Soldier Boy. By the end of the episode, they’ve even managed to put Soldier Boy back on ice. Afterwards, at The Boys’ base in the Flatiron Building, January disposes of her Starlight costume. While there’s some discussion about how Butcher won’t approve of having a supe on the team, The Boys agree that he’s no longer the sole person in charge of the team and officially welcome January aboard.

Introduced in the very first episode of The Boys, Starlight is a hero who can absorb electricity and bend it to her will. At the start of the series, she joined The Seven, which is Vought International’s premiere superhero team. In Season 3, Starlight’s massive popularity led her to becoming co-leader of the team. However, following the events of “Herogasm,” January denounced Vought International, exposing the company’s and The Seven’s unethical actions to the world. January is also in a romantic relationship with Hughie Campbell, which while rocky in Season 3, is seemingly repaired by the end of the finale.

Based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys follows the titular team in its attempts to take down Vought International, the nefarious corporation behind superheroes. The TV series, which was created by Eric Kripke, premiered in 2019 and has received both strong reviews and viewership.

Due to the success of The Boys, Prime Video has already released an animated spinoff, which was titled The Boys Presents: Diabolical. A live-action spinoff centered on the G-Men, a parody of Marvel’s X-Men, is also in the works. That project is titled The Boys Presents: Varsity.

The first three seasons of The Boys are available to stream now on Prime Video. Season 4 is currently in the works, but does not have a set release date at the time of writing. However, filming is set to begin soon.
