In the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, no one is safe. Since the events of Scream (1996), when the original Ghostface carried out a slew of brutal murders, the city has been plagued by a series of copycat killings centered around the friends and family of Sidney Prescott. With more characters in the franchise deceased than living as of Scream (2022), it’s a wonder anybody still chooses to call Woodsboro home.
Everyone in this meta-horror series is a potential victim, no matter how closely they follow the rules of survival. Along with all the newcomers, a handful of surviving characters from the original trilogy should finally meet their demise in Scream 6.
10 Missing Dad Neil Prescott Is A Loose End In The Story
Neil Prescott (portrayed by Lawrence Hecht) is the father of series protagonist Sidney Prescott and widower of Maureen Prescott. His wife’s murder was the catalyst for the original series of deaths in Woodsboro. Once a primary suspect in the crimes, Mr. Prescott’s close connection with his daughter could make him a primary target in the next wave of Ghostface killings.
Last seen in Scream 3, Mr. Prescott’s whereabouts are currently unknown, though he is presumably alive. While nobody could fault him for leaving Woodsboro, he remains one of the few living characters from the first Scream. This fact might should not go unnoticed by the next Ghostface.
Henry “Hank” Loomis (C.W Morgan) helped to start the whole mess of Woodsboro. His affair with Maureen Prescott triggered a wave of events that motivated his son, Billy Loomis, to commit the original murders. Hank’s ex-wife, Nancy, even got in on the action and became the second Ghostface in Scream 2.
Hank’s bloodline has continued with the newest generation of Scream characters. As Sam Carpenter’s biological grandfather, he remains very much connected to the continued slayings in Woodsboro. Hank’s past transgressions and secrets leave him in a precarious position, one that should see him as Ghostface’s next victim.
8 Sidney’s Husband Mark Kincaid Can’t Avoid Ghostface Again
Introduced in Scream 3, Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) is the dashing detective who managed to woo Sidney Prescott during a multiple-homicide investigation. As of Scream (2022), he and Sidney are happily married with three children.
During the events of Scream (2022), Mark apparently stays home to watch the kids. He certainly could not have known that Sidney’s solo return to Woodsboro would see her battling yet another Ghostface. However, his absence from the scene of the fifth massacre may very well pique the interest of the next killer.
7 Mindy Meeks-Martin Could Be A Victim In Her Favorite Scary Movie
Melinda “Mindy” Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) is the niece of Scream‘s resident horror expert, Randy Meeks. Having inherited Randy’s love of horror films, she is the new authority on the genre among her friend group.
Both Mindy and her twin brother Chad somehow manage to survive vicious stabbings in Scream (2022). Mindy’s attack is perhaps the most meta callback to Scream (1996). One of the most likable new characters in the series, it’d be interesting if her horror expertise was used against her in a cruel twist of fate.
6 Martha Meeks Provides An Emotionally Charged Kill
Martha Meeks (Heather Matarazzo), the sister of Randy Meeks, is the perfect candidate for a quick second-act kill. First seen in Scream 3, she made a brief appearance in Scream (2022) as the mother of Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin.
As the sister of the original horror guru, Randy Meeks, Martha creates a sentimental connection for fans of Scream 1-3. Her death would be a shocking moment, but since she is such a minor character, she is also ripe for the chopping block. If she appears in Scream 6, her death will be very likely.
5 Tara Carpenter Is The Vulnerable Sibling
A key new character in the “re-quel,” Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) is introduced to fans with a ringing telephone in Scream (2022). Unfortunately, correctly answering horror movie trivia questions doesn’t spare Tara from Ghostface’s attacks.
Tara acts as the impetus to lure her older sister, Sam, back to Woodsboro and ultimately survives the recent Scream film. Her close ties to local family history will surely land her on Ghostface’s kill list. She may even be used as a lure or decoy once again in Scream 6.
4 Sam Carpenter Should Be Ghostface’s Primary Prey
Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) is the tortured young protagonist of Scream (2022). Haunted by visions of her biological father, Billy Loomis, she is particularly vulnerable as quarry for Ghostface.
Sam is already confirmed to appear in Scream 6. It will be interesting to see which route is taken with her character; she could become either a hardened survivor or an easy target. With the secret of her father’s identity more widely known, she is virtually guaranteed to face and perhaps fall victim to the next Ghostface.
3 Kirby Reed’s Reappearance May Be Her Downfall
Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), the sole teenage survivor of Scream 4, was once thought to be dead. However, she resurfaced in Scream (2022) via an internet interview where she spoke about her trauma.
Kirby Reed is planned to appear in some capacity in Scream 6. Kirby seems to be in some degree of hiding since the Woodsboro massacre of 2011. Whether her unknown location will give her any advantage against the new killer(s) remains to be seen. There is a likely chance she will be killed off for good in Scream 6.
2 Gale Weathers Is The Reporter Everyone Loves To Hate
The ambitious news reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) brought mainstream legitimacy to Scream on the coattails of Cox’s success in the hit sitcom Friends. Gale’s sensationalized, tabloid-like books about the Woodsboro crimes inspired the fictional “Stab” film series. In turn, subsequent Ghostface copycats used the horror movies as a basis for their motives.
The ex-wife of franchise hero Dewey Riley has been stabbed and shot multiple times. Gale survived potentially lethal wounds during Scream (2022), but after 25 years, her time may soon come to call.
1 Is Scream 6 Sidney Prescott’s Last Chance For Survival?
The perpetual target and survivor of the Scream franchise, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is by far the most famous name in Woodsboro. Many of the perpetrators calling themselves Ghostface have tried to frame and/or kill her. So far, none have been successful. Possibly the most unlucky horror film protagonist of all time, Sidney has been attacked by a boyfriend, a cousin, and a half-brother.
Often saving the day rather than merely surviving, Sidney has displayed immense bravery throughout the Scream series. Despite her assertion that she’ll be okay “eventually,” the next film would be a ripe time to finally kill off the franchise’s final girl.
