Thor: Love and Thunder’s Latest Trailer Is Full of Guardians of the Galaxy

A new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder sees the eponymous God of Thunder appear side-by-side with the Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as his Thor: Ragnarok ally Miek.

Shared by Marvel Entertainment on YouTube, the trailer begins with Thor attempting to give a rousing speech to the inhabitants of New Asgard. Thor’s speech is intercut with footage of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) opening fire on an unseen opponent and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as the Mighty Thor grabbing Mjolnir. However, Thor is interrupted by a series of intensely squeaky noises created by Miek writing on a whiteboard, which distracts him from finishing his pep talk. The minute-long trailer also features new footage of Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, as well as an epic battle between Thor and the god-hating villain.

Thor: Love and Thunder‘s inclusion of the characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has been known for some time. Pratt recently discussed what it was like reuniting with Chris Hemsworth for the Thor sequel and remarked that he “[loves] being able to work with Chris Hemsworth,” and liked “every minute of shooting [Thor: Love and Thunder].”

“I’m so grateful that they brought us along,” Prat said. “It was neat to see him bring this to Australia and shoot it there, with all of his fellow countrymen. And with director Taika Waititi, who is just outrageous. His style is so unique.” As for Gorr the God Butcher, Hemsworth himself stated that Bale’s performance as the villain frightened the cast. “The rest of us would be in our world of improvisation, comedy, and fun — then he’d walk on set, and we’d all look at each other and say ‘Oh, my God! This is really intense. This is really scary,'” Hemsworth said.

While Love and Thunder will see him reprise the role of Thor Odinson, Hemsworth has implied that the sequel “might be [his] last Marvel movie,” though the actor admitted he wasn’t sure. “It was a wild and fun and wacky experience, as all Taika Waititi movies are,” Hemsworth said, who has portrayed the God of Thunder since 2011’s Thor.

He continued, “Played that character for ten, eleven, years now, and each time it’s been new and exciting, and this was no exception to that. It felt very fresh and it felt like we were trying something we hadn’t tried before. I was, in Taika’s words, I think a wacky, wild, romantic comedy set in space.”

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters on July 8.
