Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is currently in production to become a new live-action Disney+ television show. Many fans of the popular book series by Rick Riordan are looking forward to seeing the most exciting fights between Percy and monsters, gods, and even metal statues on their screens.
Due to Percy’s parentage, he’s a massive target for the monsters, and even other Olympians, looking to spite his father. As the son of Poseidon, Percy encounters many threats during his adventures, which results in a series of feats of strength and skill the 12-year-old doesn’t know he’s capable of yet and fans can’t wait to see brought to life.
10 Percy’s Math Teacher Is A Demon In Disguise
Percy’s math teacher at Yancy Academy, Mrs. Dodds, brings him to the Ancient Greek and Roman section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan. To Percy’s surprise, she turns into a Fury, a leathery flying demon with razor-sharp teeth and claws. Understandably, the young boy doesn’t know what to do.
Mr. Brunner, Percy’s Latin teacher, throws him a ballpoint pen that shockingly turns into a long Celestial bronze sword called Anaklusmos, or Riptide. Percy’s instincts kick in, and he lands a blow on the Fury, which causes her to vaporize into a cloud of dust. This fight is Percy’s first tussle with a Greek monster and his introduction to the world of the powerful Olympians and will be a huge moment in the new show.
9 The Minotaur Takes Sally Jackson
The Minotaur from the Labyrinth stalks Percy and Sally to Montauk Beach, where they flee toward Camp Half-Blood with Grover, Percy’s best friend/satyr. The monster chases the trio to Long Island, where he catches them on the crest of Half-Blood Hill.
Still unaware of his demigod status, Percy becomes enraged when the monster makes his mother disappear in a flash of golden light, seemingly killing her. Then, using unprecedented acts of strength, Percy flips onto the Minotaur’s head and tears off its horn, which the young boy uses to stab and kill the beast. This fight and his survival earn Percy the respect of his new campmates.
8 Percy Conquers The Camp Toilets
At Camp Half-Blood, Percy meets Clarisse, the daughter of Ares. When Clarisse tries to “introduce” Percy to camp with a swirly, he gets revenge. Not yet knowing the full extent of his powers, but desperate to avoid his face going in a toilet, Percy feels a tug in his gut, and the whole bathroom’s sewage system explodes. Toilet water soaks everyone and everything in the bathroom except Percy. This fight humiliates and humbles Clarisse and proves that the new kid isn’t one to mess with. Seeing Clarisse get her comeuppance in the show will be a wonderful moment.
7 Percy Beats The Best Swordsman At Camp
Percy begins sword fighting lessons with Luke Castellan, the leader of the Hermes cabin who has a reputation for being the best swordsman at camp. The young boy, who has never even held a sword aside from the interaction with Mrs. Dodds, has no training and shouldn’t have any fighting skills.
However, Percy outmaneuvers the older boy and disarms him, shocking himself, Luke, and everyone in the lesson. A stunned Luke then asks Percy to demonstrate how he pulled it off. Although this isn’t an actual fight, it’s a pivotal moment in Percy’s life, increasing his confidence and skill and setting the relationship between Percy and Luke for years to come. Like the other campers, fans will be amazed by Percy’s skills at this moment.
6 Clarisse Is Defeated Once Again
Due to her father being the god of war, Clarisse is confident in her role at camp as a bully and enforcer, but she’s met her match in Percy. During a game of Capture the Flag, Percy’s job is to keep watch by the river and defend the area.
Clarisse and her siblings take the opportunity to attack Percy, and although she and her electric spear almost defeat him, Percy manages to disarm Clarisse and break her favorite weapon. Then, using lake water to heal himself, Percy defeats the Ares kids, and Luke captures the flag for their team. Fans will surely cheer when this victorious moment happens in the show
5 The Furies Return With A Vengeance
Once their quest begins, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover ride a Greyhound bus, attempting to travel to Los Angeles, where they encounter three old ladies who look suspiciously like Mrs. Dodds. It’s rare for all three Furies to be out of the Underworld at once, but Percy’s the lucky one that draws the sisters out.
Percy uses Annabeth’s invisibility cap to sneak to the front of the bus, where he sneakily but carefully crashes the bus in an attempt to get the mortals out safely. The trio then fights the monsters and, eventually, they prevail in a fiery explosion that destroys their mode of transportation. This should make for an exciting moment in the new series
4 Aunty Em Isn’t A Sweet Old Lady
The three kids, starving and tired, stumble upon Aunty Em’s Garden Gnome Emporium, which appears to be an oddity shop full of life-sized statues of terrified people, animals, and satyrs. They meet the elusive Aunty Em, a seemingly sad and lonely old lady who offers them conversation and a greasy dinner.
Upon trying to take the kids’ “picture,” they discover that Em is Medusa, the mythical woman with snakes for hair who turns her victims to stone. Unable to look directly at her, the three kids fly through the sky, fight invisibly, and ultimately cut off her venomous head, which Percy sends to Mount Olympus in the act of rebellion against the gods putting his life in danger. This moment, if represented in the series, will show viewers that Percy is not someone the gods can easily handle.
3 Percy Blows Up The St. Louis Arch
While on a rest stop in St. Louis, the three heroes decide to visit the Arch. At the top of the Arch, overlooking the city, Percy runs into Echidna, a reptilian woman, and her pet, Chimera. The monster is a Chihuahua that turns into a fire-breathing beast with a lion’s head and a scorpion’s tail.
After losing his weapon and being stung by the Chimera, Percy knows he can’t win. To save the civilians inside, Percy jumps out of the Arch to the river below. Luckily, being a son of Poseidon has its advantages, and he doesn’t die upon impact. Fans can’t wait to see these two creatures brought to life
While at an abandoned water park to recover Ares’ magical shield, Percy and Annabeth find themselves in trouble when the metal Cupid statues start shooting metal webbing to create a trap, broadcasting the event on Olympus TV for all to see.
Percy makes the pipes under the ride explode, shooting him and Annabeth away from the Cupids and metal spiders. All three friends use their skills to get the pair out of the trap to safety while avoiding complete embarrassment on Olympian television. This wild sequence could become an iconic moment in the show.
1 A 12-Year-Old Defeats The God Of War In Battle
On the beaches of Santa Monica, Percy challenges Ares to a fight after learning of his betrayal of the gods. Percy is almost destroyed until he discovers how to use his strengths. Then, by feigning exhaustion from his mortality, he tricks Ares into lowering his guard.
Percy uses the ocean behind him to his advantage, rocketing over the god’s head on a giant wave and stabbing him in the heel with Riptide, showing how naturally powerful the young half-blood is. Ares, angered beyond belief, almost kills the boy but hesitates as something, presumably Kronos, convinces him to let the child live. It doesn’t come without consequences, though, as Ares promises Percy every time he raises his sword in battle, he’ll feel the war god’s curse. This pivotal moment in Percy’s journey should be an intense scene in the new show.
