The mod for the popular action-adventure game transforms the Lands Between into an even more unforgiving environment than it already is.
A mod for the notoriously hard Elden Ring is letting players add survival mechanics to their playthrough, making the game even more hair-pulling than it already is.
As reported by GamesRadar+, the mod, created by Grimrukh, adds a whole new selection of mechanics for players to watch out for in their journey to become the Elden Lord. One of the most notable of these features is the addition of crafting to the game, which is essential for players to master if they want to survive. This gives them the ability to make items that help them ward off the unwanted effects of hunger, thirst and even hot and freezing tempertures.
The Tarnished’s trusty steed will no longer be of much service either, as the mod’s description on Nexus Mods states that “Torrent is also nerfed.” Even weapons require crafting in this new version of the game, as players can no longer purchase or find them around the game’s world. The mod also makes the world host to a variety of diseases, which the player must find or make cures for. All of these new additions combined culminate into one unnecessary challenge that will leave players wishing they’d made the materials to create their own version of a one-hit build in Elden Ring.
The mod is just one of several that have been released for the game in an attempt to amp up gamers’ experiences. These range from the helpful to the experimental and even to the downright hilarious, with a notable one being a mod that turns Elden Ring bosses into Thomas the Tank Engine. Those on console have also been able to make a unique experience out of the game without the use of mods, with one Elden Ring player even role-playing as Jesus Christ.
Elden Ring is a 2022 action-adventure role-playing game developed by FromSoftware, who are notable for similar works such as Bloodborne, Sekiro and the Souls series. The game follows the protagonist, the Tarnished, as they are called back to the Lands Between in desperation. Throughout their journey, the Tarnished must defeat the creatures and bosses that reside within the world in an attempt to repair the Elden Ring and become the next Elden Lord.
Released to universal acclaim, sales of Elden Ring have continued to climb, with Elden Ring easily surpassing Call of Duty: Vanguard in 12-month overall sales. Elden Ring is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.
