Spider-Man is getting a brand new costume that may be reminiscent of his Secret Wars symbiote suit in Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War.
Marvel Entertainment tweeted a short video revealing a cover that teases a new costume for Spider-Man in the publisher’s Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War series and in the Fortnite video game. The cover reveal doesn’t show the look of the new outfit; however, it homages the 1984’s Secret Wars #8 cover created by Mike Zeck and John Beatty, which shows Spider-Man receiving his black symbiote costume.
Spider-Man’s black suit symbiote costume first appeared in 1984’s Amazing Spider-Man #252 but was chronologically first worn in Secret Wars #8. In Secret Wars, Spider-Man/Peter Parker joins a number of other Marvel Universe heroes and villains — including Captain America, Iron Man, the X-Men, Doctor Doom and several others — when they’re transported to Battleworld by the Defender. While there, the heroes find a device that creates new superhero costume, which Peter uses after his is torn to pieces. The device gives him the black-and-white symbiote suit, which is later revealed to be an alien lifeform that eventually becomes Venom.
Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War is a new five-issue series from writer Christos Gage (Spider-Geddon, Avengers Academy), artist Sergio Dávila and Epic Games’ Chief Creative Officer Donald Mustard. The story follows Spider-Man, Captain Marvel and others as they become trapped on the Fortnite island and must set out on a quest to retrieve an object called the Zero Shard. “Marvel X Fortnite: Zero War is the kind of epic, widescreen, action-packed event that both Marvel and Fortnite fans love,” Gage previously said of the series. “Getting to work on it with the brilliant Donald Mustard, Sergio Davila, and the rest of our incredible creative team is a dream come true. I get to write a story with dinosaurs, a giant robot, Marvel superheroes, Fortnite characters and Dr. Doom…in adventures that will have a major effect on them all! I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I first read Contest of Champions in 1982!”
Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War #1 releases June 8. The synopsis for the issue reads, “THE MARVEL UNIVERSE COLLIDES WITH FORTNITE! The inhabitants on the Island are locked in what seems like a never-ending war, and only one thing has the potential to turn the tide – a crystallized fragment of the Zero Point that was cast into the Marvel Universe. Spider-Man and Wolverine team up with several Fornite fighters and new recruit Shuri to hunt down the elusive Zero Shard. Will these allies be able to find it in time and avert catastrophe? And can the heroes of the Marvel and Fortnite realities hold off the Imagined Order long enough to give them a fighting chance? Epic Games’ Chief Creative Officer, Donald Mustard, teams up with veteran Marvel writer Christos Gage (SPIDER-GEDDON, AVENGERS ACADEMY) and artist Sergio Dávila (CAPTAIN MARVEL) for a five-part crossover event with enormous ramifications for both universes! Each first print issue contains a redeemable code to unlock a bonus digital cosmetic in Fortnite! See issue for details.”
