Street Fighter 6 is finally coming, with the Capcom fighter bringing the venerable series into the next gaming generation. That means bringing together World Warriors new and old for a royal smackdown, the likes of which seems to be the franchise’s best yet. Of course, not much has been officially revealed about the roster, but the latest trailer did reveal some things about the cast.
Veterans Ryu and Chun-Li will return to fight alongside of and against some fresh new faces, recalling the premise of the series’ third main entry. The biggest part of any fighting game is the roster, and that’s especially the case for a Street Fighter game. Plenty more fighters are sure to be announced, but here are the World Warriors revealed to be Street Fighter 6 so far.
Bearded Ryu Makes His Return In Street Fighter 6
Of course, it wouldn’t be Street Fighter without protagonist Ryu, who’s back with a new design in the latest game. Sporting the beard from an alternate costume in Street Fighter V, this visibly older Ryu suggests that the story finally takes place after Street Fighter III. Many of his signature moves are on display, including his Hadoken and Shoryuken.
Ryu’s outfit has him mostly bare chested, wearing the white pants of his former gi. Likewise, he also sports a long sash in some images, which resembles the one worn by his former master Gouken. Thus, it’s very likely that he’ll switch from protagonist to more of a mentor role in the story.
Franchise Heroine Chun-Li Spins Into Street Fighter 6
Chun-Li is also back, which makes sense, given that she’s both the premiere female fighter in the series and one of the best known heroines in all of video games. Her moveset is mostly the same, though her design has been slightly updated. Her outfit is something of a cross between her looks in Street Fighter II and Street Fighter Alpha. Her hair buns are also uncovered, further resembling the Alpha prequels. She’s also voiced by Jennie Kwan in the English version of the game, giving her an actual Chinese voice actress.
Luke Returns From Street Fighter V
Luke was already hyped up as a big part of the franchise’s future when he was brought into Street Fighter V as part of its final DLC. That’s definitely the case, as he already seems to be a major player in Street Fighter 6. Luke is first seen hitting a punching bag in a local gym, further hinting at his being the protagonist given the urban theme of the game. He retains his moves from the previous game, as well as a pretty similar look. How he’ll move the franchise forward is still unknown, but given that his moves are pretty similar to Ryu and Ken’s, he definitely works as a new main character.
Jamie Is a Drunken Newcomer to the Series
The first brand-new character announced for Street Fighter 6 is Jamie, who’s also the first character in the series to use “Drunken Kung-Fu” as a fighting style. This expands the series’ martial arts representation to be closer to franchises like Virtua Fighter and Namco’s rival Tekken series. Jamie combines this discipline with a sort of dancing, making him a unique take on the fighting game trope.
Jamie is described as defending Chinatown and looking up to Yun and Yang as his heroes. These two, who are the grandsons of Lee from the original Street Fighter, debuted in Street Fighter III. This further suggests that the game is finally taking the franchise’s storyline forward into the future with a new generation of Street Fighters.
