Daniela Melchior, known for playing Ratcatcher 2 in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, will appear in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
According to Deadline, Melchior will appear in a “small role” in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. What character Melchior will play has not yet been announced, but Gunn tweeted last year that she won’t be playing Moondragon in the upcoming film despite online speculation. Gunn confirmed the announcement on his Twitter account, saying, “I can confirm (and confirm she’s wonderful in the role). [Melchior] is one of my favorite people & actors around, & I hope this is just the second of many projects we’ll work on together.”
Melchior started her professional acting career by starring in several Portuguese films and television series, including 2104’s Mulheres, 2016’s Massa Fresca, 2018’s The Black Book of Father Dinis and more. In 2021, she played Cleo Cazo/Ratcatcher 2 in Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Additionally, Melchior also provided the Portuguese voice for Spider-Gwen/Gwen Stacy, who is voiced by Hailee Steinfeld in the English version, in Sony’s animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Following The Suicide Squad, Melchior has been cast in a number of other upcoming projects. In March 2022, she joined Fast X in an undisclosed role. The upcoming film, which is scheduled for release on May 19, 2023, also cast Captain Marvel‘s Brie Larson and Titan‘s Alan Ritchson in undisclosed roles, while Aquaman‘s Jason Momoa will play an unnamed villain. Beyond Fast X, Melchior will also star in 2022’s Assassin Club alongside Henry Golding and Sam Neil and Marlowe with Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger and Jessica Lane.
Gunn, who directed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films for Marvel in 2014 and 2017, announced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 officially wrapped filming in May. In addition to Melchior, the film will also star Chris Pratt as Star-Lord/Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot (voice), Bradley Cooper as Rocket (voice), Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Will Poulter as Adam Warlock and Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord. Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn and Peacemaker‘s Chukwudi Iwuji will also appear in the film.
Before the film hits theaters in 2023, some of the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in two additional Marvel projects: Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, which is scheduled for release on July 8, and Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which is coming to Disney+ in December. Gunn previously announced The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special finished filming in late April.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to release on May 5, 2023.
