Two spartans battle it out thanks to a God of War mod that allows Kratos and the Halo franchise’s top warrior, Master Chief, to trade blows.
A God of War mod turns the game’s opening fight into a spartan versus spartan brawl by replacing Baldur with the Halo franchise’s Master Chief.
A video of the modded exchange of fists between Kratos and Spartan-117 was shared by Twitter user @Kidskull51. Both the cutscenes and the actual combat have Master Chief taking on the role of the invincible stranger. Several visual effects such as Baldur’s blue aura and the air distortion when he heals can still be seen surrounding the MJOLNIR armor. Throughout the battle, Jeremy Davies’ voiceover can be heard from behind the warrior’s visor.
Set many years after the events of God of War‘s original trilogy, which was initially released for PlayStation 2 in 2005, God of War introduces fans to a version of Kratos that is older, wiser and slightly slower to anger. Having found a home and started a family in the snowy landscape of Midgard, his relative peace is interrupted by a tattooed stranger — or in the case of the mod, a fully armored space soldier. Now on a journey for closure and answers, Kratos and his son, Atreus, journey to the highest peak in all the realms with the Norse pantheon not too far behind.
The fourth installment to the God of War series was a smash hit for gamers. Earning itself 2018’s Game of the Year award, it’s been largely praised as an improvement and worthy successor to the franchise. This has led to even greater anticipation for the sequel, God of War: Ragnarök. A PlayStation exclusive, an official port for God of War was made available to PC users on Jan. 14. Even without the addition of mods, the PC version of God of War does come with exclusive features and content such as several shield skins, a new armor set for Kratos and Atreus, and upgraded visual capabilities for supported devices.
God of War: Ragnarök will pick up three years after the close of 2018’s God of War. As Fimbulwinter — an extended winter prophesized to prelude the arrival of Ragnarök — begins to wane, Kratos and his teenage son, Atreus, seek out a way to prevent the coming destruction. It will feature both allies and foes seen in the previous game, as well as characters that were heavily referenced but not shown, such as the Norse God of War, Týr.
God of War is available on PlayStation and PC. God of War: Ragnarök is expected to release in 2022 exclusively for PlayStation.
