Ahsoka stars Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo proudly recall watching the animated Star Wars shows multiple times for research.
At Star Wars Celebration, the stars of Disney+’s live-action Ahsoka series proudly proclaimed that they have re-watched the animated Star Wars shows multiple times in preparation.
Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo took the stage in Anaheim to talk about Ahsoka. When the two were asked if they went back to watch the previous animated shows for inspiration, Dawson replied, “Over and over and over again. Yes.” The audience responded with a wave of applause.
Both Dawson and Bordizzo expressed gratitude for getting to play characters with such rich lore attached to them. “Thank goodness for all that research and history we get to play off of.”
A teaser trailer played during the celebration giving attendees an exclusive first look at the series. The teaser reveals several characters from Star Wars Rebels will be making appearances in the series. The characters confirmed were Hera Syndulla, a Twi’lek pilot, and the astromech droid Chopper (aka C1-10P). Also shown was Bordizzo’s character, Sabine Wren, who Lucasfilm announced to appear back in November. Bordizzo laughed at the stress of having to keep her casting a secret for almost a year.
In a previous interview, Bryce Dallas Howard, who has directed episodes of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, shared that fans of The Clone Wars will love Ahsoka. “Without giving anything away, you are going to love the Ahsoka show that’s coming up,” she said. “I cannot tell you anything, but what I can say is that you being a fan of the Clone Wars will be greatly rewarded.”
Dawson will portray Ahsoka herself for the character’s upcoming Disney+ solo series. She debuted as the live-action version of the character in The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 5, “The Jedi.” She reprised the role for The Book of Boba Fett Season 1, Episode 6, “From the Desert Comes a Stranger.” Developed by The Mandalorian creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm announced that Ahsoka would receive her own limited series in December 2020.
Dawson revealed that her first appearance as Ahsoka Tano didn’t come with any contract in a separate interview. Dawson said, “Even as they were first talking about this potential of Ahsoka showing up in Mandolorian season two, it was like, if you’re interested and you hate it and you never want to do anything again, we’re not contracting you to anything right now.”
Ahsoka will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
