The Bob’s Burgers Movie feels very much like the quirky show — just on a supersized scale, which is all it needed to be,” wrote Lindsey Bahr of the Associated Press. Similarly, Rachel Leishman of The Mary Sue wrote, “The movie just feels like an extended episode in the best of ways. It doesn’t drag or ever feel like this could have just been an episode. It worked as a movie and will, hopefully, bring more audience members into the show.”

In his official review of the film, CBR’s own Brandon Zachary wrote, “The Bob’s Burgers Movie will leave audiences grinning ear to ear, with infectious songs stuck in their heads and a soft spot in their heart. It’s just a fun, nice film that doesn’t take itself too seriously but never cheapens the characters in the process.”

That said, the film’s reception among critics is not unanimously glowing. “Scattered laughs and lovable characters can’t entirely save a confused narrative structure and a bloated runtime,” wrote Robert Kojder of Flickering Myth. Meanwhile, Soleil Ho of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote, “I wanted to love The Bob’s Burgers Movie, but it truly tested my faith as a fan of the long-running sitcom.”

Following its premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood on May 17, The Bob’s Burgers Movie is set to release in cinemas across the United States this Friday, May 27. The film is based on Loren Bouchard’s fan-favorite animated sitcom Bob’s Burgers, which premiered on Fox in January 2011. To date, the show has aired 238 episodes, having concluded its 12th season just a few days ago on May 22. The Bob’s Burgers Movie is the second theatrically-released feature film based on an animated Fox sitcom, following 2007’s The Simpsons Movie.
