Jack Ryan Ending With Season 4, Spinoff Starring Michael Peña in Development

Prime Video’s John Krasinski-led Jack Ryan series is ending with Season 4, though a spinoff series starring Michael Peña is reportedly in the works.

Prime Video’s John Krasinski-led political thriller series Jack Ryan will take its final bow with Season 4, though that may not be the end of the “Ryanverse” on Amazon’s streaming platform.

According to Deadline, Jack Ryan‘s upcoming fourth season — which is currently in production — will also be its last on Prime Video. However, a potential spinoff series starring Michael Peña as Domingo “Ding” Chavez, another character from author Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan universe, is currently in development from Amazon Studios, Paramount Television Studios and Skydance Television. Peña is expected to make a guest appearance as Ding Chavez in Jack Ryan Season 3 before serving as a main cast member in Season 4.

Sources say Krasinski committed to four seasons when he first signed on to play the lead character of Prime Video’s Jack Ryan, on which he also serves as an executive producer. Deadline explains that The Office alum has also been serving as something of a writer/showrunner for the “latter part” of Jack Ryan‘s run. That said, Prime Video has yet to officially comment on the show’s apparent fate.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan premiered the entirety of its eight-episode first season on Prime Video on Aug. 31, 2018. The show returned for an eight-episode second season on Oct. 31, 2019. In February 2019, several months before Season 2 dropped, Prime Video renewed Jack Ryan for a third season, which has yet to premiere.

The streaming platform subsequently ordered a fourth season in October 2021, at which point Peña’s casting was revealed (though his role was still being kept under wraps at the time). Prime Video has yet to announce premiere dates for Jack Ryan Seasons 3 and 4, though Deadline speculates that the show will reach its conclusion in 2023.

Based on Clancy’s novels, Jack Ryan follows the eponymous CIA analyst, who works as a desk jockey before being abruptly yanked into the field. Krasinski is the fifth person to play the character of Jack Ryan in live-action, following Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.
