Doctor Strange 2 Star Elizabeth Olsen Says Scarlet Witch is Not a Role Model

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen says she doesn’t see Scarlet Witch as a role model, and kids shouldn’t idolize her.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star Elizabeth Olsen doesn’t want kids to think of Scarlet Witch as a role model.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Olsen expressed her thoughts on how the Doctor Strange sequel could change the viewpoint of fans towards her character. “I think the thing that I worry about is when people start saying, ‘Is she a role model to children?'” said Olsen. “And I don’t like answering that question at all because she is a woman who’s made big mistakes, and I don’t want to think of her as a role model, encouraging kids to make similar violent mistakes.”

“The only thing that worries me is she became this thing that even little kids loved, and then we’re really pushing it with this one,” Olsen added, underscoring Wanda’s dark side in Multiverse of Madness. “So that’s the one thing where I’m like, ‘I don’t want to answer role model questions.'”

Olsen’s character went through significant changes in the Disney+ series WandaVision. She mind-controlled the entire town of Westview to live out an imaginary life with Vision, her late lover, whom Thanos had killed in Infinity War. By the end of the show, she was trying to master the Darkhold so that she could bring back Billy and Tommy, the kids she had created within her Westview fantasy. Multiverse of Madness continues Wanda’s story, showing her grieving for her children while also having a newly developed vendetta against Doctor Strange due to how the world responds so differently toward him, as she tells him in a scene from the trailer, “You break the rules and become a hero. I do it, I become the enemy.”

Directed by Sam Raimi,Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness follows Dr. Stephen Strange and his allies venturing into the Multiverse to encounter a new adversary who threatens to rip the fabric of their world. The film is now playing in theaters.
