The pilot episode for Mystery Incorporated, a fan-made Scooby-Doo series inspired by The CW shows Riverdale and Supernatural, premieres online.
What’s new, Scooby-Doo? Mystery Incorporated, a fan-made series re-imagining Scooby-Doo and the gang for a modern generation, has premiered its first episode.
Fans of the Hanna-Barbera characters have been treated to the pilot episode of Mystery Incorporated, created by Dade Elza and Jessica Chancellor, who also star as Fred Jones and Daphne Blake respectively. “Welcome To Coolsville,” the 53-minute first episode of the fan-made series premiered on April 27 on YouTube and followed Fred Jones as he sets out to learn more about the creature who murdered his parents. His search leads him to resident skeptic Velma Dinkley and the two must form a quick bond to fight back against the evil they have accidentally unleashed.
Filled with references and supporting characters from the franchise’s past, Mystery Incorporated is inspired by CW shows like Supernatural and Riverdale as well as the original Scooby-Doo cartoons and movies. The project launched as an Indiegogo campaign in April 2020 where it quickly raised over $30,000 from 563 backers, surpassing its initial $15,000 goal. Production on the pilot was originally set to begin in the summer of 2020 but was delayed until August 2021 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Elza and Chancellor are hoping to create an entire 12-episode season of Mystery Incorporated through future Indiegogo campaigns. Funding for the next episode, “What a Knight for a Knight,” is now available and has already surpassed its $15,000 goal. The campaign is now working towards reaching stretch goals, which would allow the second episode to have a longer runtime and release by the end of July.
If the campaign reaches $200,000, the untitled third episode will be shot back-to-back with “What a Knight for a Knight.” If $1 million is raised, the entire first season will be shot concurrently and released in an episodic manner similar to TV network release schedules. The campaign states that the vision for Mystery Incorporated is to “not only [create] an entire season, but a full Universe that is just as high quality as anything you may see on television or Netflix.”
In addition to Elza and Chancellor, Mystery Incorporated stars Chris Villain, Dayeanne Hutton, Thor Von Schultz as Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, Velma Dinkley and Scooby-Doo, respectively. Kiera Please, Arielle Diaz and Brittany Mason are also set to recur as the Hex Girls. The first season is set to be directed by Dante Yore, who helmed the pilot episode.
“Welcome to Coolsville” can be streamed in its entirety on the Mystery Incorporated YouTube channel.
