Sifu will be getting a healthy flow of updates throughout the rest of the year that will appeal to die-hard fans while enticing newcomers to join in.
Sifu is a 3D beat ’em up that takes elements from roguelikes as well as Soulslikes and combines them with its own innovative permadeath system to create a unique action experience. Difficulty is what dominates both genres, and Sifu is no different because death is a common occurrence. Die-hard fans have been playing and replaying through Sifu long after rolling credits thanks to the game’s heavy emphasis on replay value.
Even more content is coming for Sifu fans, as the game will be getting new updates throughout the year. SloClap, developers of Sifu, are currently hard at work updating the title with substantial features for which fans have been begging. This roadmap of updates promises to keep the community thriving for the rest of the year.
The roadmap for the future of Sifu was announced on Twitter, boasting four free major updates throughout the year that each target a specific season. The Spring update releases on May 3 and adds in the most requested feature: multiple difficulty options. Now Sifu will be more accessible to a wider audience regardless of skill level. The difficulty will also be alleviated with a new advanced training mode, so players can safely practice and learn the fight mechanics in depth outside of real combat. Lastly, the Spring update offers players a brand-new outfit to select from the start. Each subsequent update will add even more outfits as the year moves on.
The Summer update dives deeper into the gameplay by giving players more ways to toy with each mechanic. An advanced scoring system will be introduced that will keep track of player performance and grade their results, similar to Devil May Cry‘s signature style system. Gameplay modifiers are going to be added into the game which will be familiar to Halo fans who have experimented with the skull collectibles. Seven modifiers will be available at the start, such as “No Guard” and “Bullet Time,” with more modifiers included in each update moving forward.
In the Fall, besides the extra outfits and modifiers coming in, there is only one big addition to the game: a replay editor. While the game already has a detailed photo mode, it only applies to still images, unlike a replay editor, which can properly capture the fluid motions of the choreographed brawls. Players will soon be able to make their own highlight reels with in-game editing software to show off the stylish moves they performed.
The final update of 2022 comes in the Winter and could potentially be the biggest of the bunch. An entirely new mode will be coming to Sifu called “Arenas.” Not much is officially known yet, but judging from the title, it is safe to assume this will be a wave-based battle mode. A game with combat as good as Sifu‘s is ripe for an arena mode that truly hones in on the shine of the gameplay. Enemy encounters are static throughout every level so having a mode that can create new challenges is perfect for fans who spent the whole year studying every level inside and out.
Sifu is the game that keeps on giving to a fan base that was already more than satisfied with the end product. Day one fans and newcomers alike should be excited about the year ahead. Indeed, the future of Sifu is looking incredibly bright.
