A recent report indicates a working title for Marvel’s Blade reboot starring Mahershahla Ali, as well as when production is expected to begin.
Marvel Studios’ Blade production now has a start date and a working title.
According to The Cosmic Circus, Standoffish Productions LLC will begin principal photography of Blade this July in the Atlanta area, under the working title “Perfect Imprints.” Marvel has already announced the film will star Mahershahla Ali as Eric Brooks/Blade, described in an early synopsis as “a half-human/half-vampire ‘Daywalker'” who has “honed his abilities to hunt down the undead who have long terrorized mankind.” Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre will co-star in undisclosed roles. Bassem Tariq will direct the film from a script by Stacy Osei-Kuffour.
While many details of Blade remain unknown, Ali has already played the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making a surprise voiceover cameo in the post-credits stinger of Eternals. Ali described the experience as scary, “Because, you know, you’re talking before you’re filming it. I’m pretty particular about my choices, like most actors, and so having to make some choices — even with a line, vocally — this early on, it brought up some very real anxieties. And it made the job real. It’s like, ‘Okay, this is happening now,’ you know, and that’s exciting.”
Blade’s first theatrical outings came long before the MCU, with a trilogy of films across the late ’90’s and early ’00’s starring Wesley Snipes as the titular Daywalker. Snipes himself has shown support for Ali taking over the character, saying that “He will do great” and that Ali “[is] gonna smash it I’m sure.” Ali previously stated that Snipes currently “owns” the role but that he looks for to “earning it…I’m just excited to get going and do the work.”
With Blade having already interacted with Dane Whitman, who some believe will become the medieval-themed superhero the Black Knight, MCU fans are speculating that the studio is assembling a Midnight Sons team-up vehicle. Marvel has already begun bringing horror/fantasy-themed characters to the forefront in projects like WandaVision, Moon Knight and the upcoming Werewolf By Night Halloween special.
Additionally, there have been rumors that Ghost Rider is set to play a more prominent role in MCU lore, with The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus having reportedly discussed the Spirit of Vengeance with Marvel Studios.
Marvel Studios’ Blade is set to begin filming in July 2022. It will reportedly release on Disney+.
