The upcoming DC film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will see Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa) join forces with his antagonistic half-brother Orm Marius/Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) — whether they like it or not.
A new, official logline for the film was revealed during CinemaCon and subsequently relayed online by DiscussingFilm on Twitter. “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will follow Aquaman and Orm who reluctantly team up to face a stronger Black Manta and his army,” it reads.
Back in December 2021, Warner Bros. Pictures released a separate synopsis for the Aquaman sequel, which read, “When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.”
At the time, however, it was unclear if the “uneasy alliance” would be between Aquaman and Ocean Master, or perhaps Aquaman and David Kane/Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). It’s now apparent that Aquaman and his villainous brother will be teaming up against Black Manta, the latter of whom will evidently be Lost Kingdom‘s main antagonist.
Lost Kingdom serves as a sequel to the 2018 DC Extended Universe film Aquaman, with James Wan returning to the director’s chair. Momoa, Wilson and Abdul-Mateen reprise their roles as Aquaman, Ocean Master and Black Manta, respectively. In the first film, Ocean Master serves as the main antagonist, with Black Manta acting as a secondary antagonist. Black Manta swears vengeance on Aquaman, setting a stage for his larger role in the upcoming sequel.
Aquaman stars Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Kidman and Randall Park also reprise their roles as Mera, Nuidis Vulko, King Nereus, Thomas Curry, Atlanna and Dr. Stephen Shin, respectively, in Lost Kingdom. Additionally, the sequel features a number of newcomers in the form of Vincent Regan as Atlan, Jani Zhao as Stingray, Indya Moore as Karshon and Pilou Asbæk as an undisclosed character.
Lost Kingdom officially wrapped production this past January. “I have a very long way to go before it will be ready, but I can’t wait to share this little film with you all,” Wan said at the time. The Aquaman sequel is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 17, 2023, having been delayed from its previous planned release date of Dec. 16, 2022.
