Star Wars is full of interesting creatures — none more interesting than the Mythosaur. This massive creature has a deep history within the franchise, especially with the Mandalorian people. Various Star Wars sites like MakingStarWars.net are claiming that The Mandalorian is getting ready to show the Mythosaur on screen for the first time, and fans couldn’t be more excited. If a Mythosaur does appear in The Mandalorian Season 3, it could also have equally massive implications for the show’s future.
The Mythosaur was a beast of immense size — described as being as large as a small city — with two huge tusks and rows of sharp teeth. It was native to Mandalore and one of the most dangerous creatures in Star Wars. Canon has established that the ancient Mandalorians (like Mandalorian Jedi Tarre Viszla) used to tame the Mythosaurs and ride them into battle. While they subsequently went extinct, the Mandalorians still have prophecies that revolve around the return of the legendary beast. Based on the rumors, some of these prophecies may be fulfilled during The Mandalorian Season 3 — giving viewers the chance to see if the creature lives up to its iconic status.
In The Book of Boba Fett, The Armorer speaks of a prophecy that says that the rise of the Mythosaur heralds a new age for Mandalore. The Armorer immediately dismisses the idea due to the fact that the Mythosaur are believed to be extinct — but could that be revealed to be false? The Mandalorian has placed a lot of importance on the history of Mandalore and the legacy of its leadership over its first two seasons. With Din Djarin now wielding the Darksaber and Bo-Katan Kryze having her sights set on restoring Mandalore, Season 3 is the perfect time for the Mythosaur prophecy to be realized.
Din also seems intent on returning to Mandalore — but for a far different reason. Since he took off his helmet in front of others, Din was kicked out of the Children of the Watch, the group of religious fanatics who raised him after he was found during the Clone Wars. By returning to Mandalore and entering the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore, he can restore his honor and rejoin his tribe. This opens the door for Din to find a Mythosaur under the rubble of his legendary homeworld — and could set off plenty of changes in future episodes of the show.
If Din finds the Mythosaur on Mandalore, combined with the Darksaber, it would make him the undisputed leader of Mandalore and its people. The Children of the Watch would have to acknowledge that despite removing his helmet, he is still a Mandalorian. Bo-Katan would have to give up her ideas of ruling Mandalore again and support Din instead if she truly wanted to restore her people’s honor. Finding the Mythosaur would signal to the Mandalorians — and then to the greater galaxy — that their people are ready to make their big return.
If The Mandalorian Season 3 (which is not premiering this summer) was able to bring the Mythosaur to the screen for the first time, that would not only thrill fans, but also begin the long-awaited and much-hyped rise of the Mandalorians. The people of Mandalore used to be one of the most powerful civilizations in the Star Wars universe; if they rose again, they would be a force to be reckoned with in any future franchise stories. Din Djarin’s journey is far from over, and introducing the Mythosaur would provide a clear path not only for him, but for all of Mandalore.
