Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi pokes fun at Marvel fans impatiently waiting for the upcoming film’s full-length trailer.
The teaser trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder may have only just dropped, but director Taika Waititi is already anticipating — and trolling — the responses from impatient fans.
Waititi began poking fun at those clamoring for the next Thor movie when the director tweeted out the Love and Thunder teaser trailer with the caption, “Here is the full-length finished movie. Eat and enjoy.” Taking his trolling a step further, Waititi took aim at the impatient fans he expects to hear from, adding, “I give it 2 days before they start whining about ‘Where’s the full-length trailer?'” The director did eventually concede his own eager anticipation, however, writing, “To be fair, I also can’t wait. Seeing people see this teaser has made even me excited to see this film.”
While the teaser trailer for Love and Thunder was less than two minutes long, the brief preview provided plenty of hints at what fans can expect from the sequel. The teaser revealed the first look at Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster wielding Mjolnir as a character Marvel has officially confirmed to be Mighty Thor. Jane was originally written as a love interest for Thor Odinson from 1962’s Journey into Mystery #84 by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby, but she later picked up Mjolnir and gained the powers of Thor in a 2014 series from Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman.
The teaser revealed more of Love and Thunder‘s comic book inspirations, with one shot appearing ripped straight from the pages of Thor: God of Thunder Vol. 1 #3. The trailer scene shows Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Waititi’s Korg overlooking the corpse of a god that comic readers will know as Falligar the Behemoth, slain by Gorr the God Butcher. Though Thor is alone in the comic book version, the shot from the trailer is nearly an exact copy of the panel originally drawn by Esad Ribić and colored by Ive Svorcina.
Fans were also able to catch a glimpse of a new-and-improved Kraglin in the Love and Thunder teaser, as Sean Gunn’s fan-favorite character was given a major upgrade. The Ravager can be seen around the trailer’s 30-second mark, equipped with Yondu’s fin from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which Kraglin was last seen practicing with during a post-credits scene to disastrous effect. Kraglin’s role in Love and Thunder is currently unknown, but fans will likely learn more when the full-length trailer is released. Until then, they’ll have to remain patient.
Thor: Love and Thunder lands in theaters July 8.
