Peter Parker is out of commission in Amazing Spider-Man #82, but his time in the hospital launches a new era with Marvel’s Spider-Man Beyond event.
Ben Reilly will assume the role of New York’s premiere web-slinger as the Spider-Man Beyond event kicks off — and despite early rumors, Peter Parker does not die.
Peter is hospitalized, rather, and will actively participate in the story from his hospital room at McCarthy Medical Center with Mary Jane nursing the bedridden and nonmobile Peter to health. However, when Peter’s roommate mysteriously vanishes, the pair team up to solve the disappearance. Written by Saladin Ahmed with artwork by Jorge Fornés, Amazing Spider-Man #82 features an evocative cover by Arthur Adams showing Peter and Mary Jane’s hospital investigation — and the temporarily-out-of-commission Spider-Man can be seen wall-crawling in his hospital gown. The issue goes on sale on Dec. 15.

As Peter recovers, Ben Reilly is set to face a host of challenges — ranging from battles with Kraven the Hunter and Morbius to fulfilling Doctor Strange’s dying wishes. Even with the backing of the shadowy Beyond corporation, the former Scarlet Spider has his work cut out for him as he defends New York. A number of monumental developments have been teased as well, including a showdown between Ben and Miles Morales and possibly a rekindled romance between Aunt May and Doctor Octopus, who nearly married in 1974’s Amazing Spider-Man #131.
Spider-Man Beyond kicks off with Amazing Spider-Man #75 on Oct. 6, and a number of creators, including Ahmed, Cody Ziglar, Patrick Gleason, Zeb Wells and Kelly Thompson will work on the title, which releases three times a month.
Amazing Spider-Man #82 goes on sale on Dec. 15.
