Johns & Frank’s 80-Page Special Teases Their New Image Series

A multitude of creators tell tales in Geiger 80-Page Giant #1, which includes a peek at Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s next project — Junkyard Joe.

Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s creator-owned Image Comics series Geiger receives a giant-sized special in November filled with stories featuring the so-called “Glowing Man,” as well as a teaser for the duo’s next series.

Geiger 80-Page Giant #1 showcases tales by Johns, Frank and the likes of Bryan Hitch, Jay Faerber, Sterling Gates, Janet Harvey, Leon Hendrix III, Peter J. Tomasi, Pornsak Pichetshote, Staz Johnson, Joe Prado, Paul Pelletier, Sean Galloway, Peter Snejbjerg, Kelley Jones, and Megan Levens. Its stories include the introduction of a mystery man known as Redcoat with ties to Geiger, the origin of Geiger’s two-headed dog Barney, and the backstory behind the Warlords of Las Vegas, a crime group that controls the casino-filled oasis in the middle of Geiger‘s futuristic nuclear wasteland.

The special also features a preview of Junkyard Joe, an upcoming project by Johns and Frank that will presumably reference an in-world comic strip starring a robot soldier that was included in Geiger #1. The strip saw Frank drawing in a cartoony style under the penname Morrie “Muddy” Davis.

“A really cool bonus to working on the original Geiger series was getting to see the interpretations of some of our favorite artists on the variant covers,” Frank said. “Now we get the thrill of seeing other artists AND writers bringing these characters to life in new and wonderful ways!”

“The greatest thing about comic books are the friends you get to work with and this book is full of them,” Johns added.

The first issue of Geiger, starring a titular irradiated hero fighting in a Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic world, hit comic shops in April. The final entry in the series’ first volume, Geiger #6, goes on sale Sept. 1. Geiger 80-Page Giant releases Nov. 24.
