Non-Stop Spider-Man pits the Wall-Crawler against Deadpool’s biggest fans who have been upgraded and now present a serious threat.

Marvel’s latest Spider-Man series has the Wall-Crawler battling to save college students from a new designer drug that is causing them to die from overdosing. The second issue of Non-Stop Spider-Man reveals what this drug is, what it does, and who it benefits every time one of these kids dies. It turns out that the brainpower from the youngsters ends up transferred into someone else’s body, and that includes two of Deadpool’s biggest fans — the Zapata Brothers.
In the first issue, Spider-Man looked into the student’s deaths and was attacked by villains using very expensive weaponry. In the second issue, the Zapata Brothers attacked Spider-Man, most likely hired by the wealthy dealers. This time, however, Spider-Man noticed a huge difference in the brothers. He said he was “stunned” to see them look intimidating and mentioned they were “former knuckleheads, suddenly brilliant.”
Spider-Man and Norah Winters were investigating the deaths when the villains bombed the building they were searching. Spider-Man struggled to get Norah to safety when the Zapata Brothers attacked. The hero was unable to get away from them, and they were somehow even able to avoid setting off his spider-sense. When Spider-Man finally got a break, he figured out what was going on and it wasn’t good.
The designer drugs he and Norah were investigating were energy transmitters. The drugs are able to steal and harness a person’s brainpower which can then be transferred into someone else. The students who died were all highly intelligent, and at least some of that intelligence has been transferred to The Zapata Brothers . The Luchador bounty hunters were formerly idiots with an admiration of Deadpool, but the effects of the drug has turned them into real threats…which the Web-Slinger has learned the hard way.
The Zapata Brothers debuted in 2009’s Moon Knight #27 by Mike Benson and Jefte Palo. In their first appearance, the brothers never came across as smart, usually calling each other “bro” and often making huge mistakes in judgment. However, it also seemed like the brothers had good hearts and tried to do the right thing in the end.
In 2009’s Deadpool Team-Up #898 by Mike Benson and Carlo Barberi, the two were hired to target their idol Deadpool, and chose to team up with the mercenary rather than work for criminals. Now, the brothers are back with a jacked-up intelligence and far deadlier attitude, presenting a very real challenge for Marvel’s web-slinging hero.
