Each issue of Batman Secret Files will be a separate one-shot spotlighting a different member of the Bat-Family. The first issue of the series will be Batman Secret Files: The Signal #1. Due out on July 6, the 40-page one-shot will be written by Tony Patrick with art by Christian Duce, with a standard cover by Ken Lashley and a variant by Cully Hamner. The series is intended to explore new corners of Gotham City, uncovering secrets that even the Dark Knight can’t find.

Batman Secret Files: The Signal #1 follows Duke Thomas, aka The Signal, as he returns to Gotham City after time spent away with the Outsiders. Duke’s homecoming is ruined as he finds that everything in the city has changed, from the people to the city itself. And when Duke discovers the mystery of the White Market, a deadly source of weaponry that has eluded Batman’s watchful eye, he has to leap into a brand new world of danger before the city he loves becomes a breeding ground for death and destruction.

Both Tony Patrick and Christian Duce have spent time working on the Batman family of titles. Patrick previously wrote Batman and the Signal in 2018, teaming with Duke’s co-creator Scott Snyder in a story drawn by Cully Hamner. He was also featured in the 2017 edition of the DC New Talent Showcase, in which he wrote a feature story about Duke. Meanwhile, Christian Duce has worked on Detective Comics, Batman & Robin Eternal, and Batman: Arkham Unhinged.

The character of Duke Thomas first appeared in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s acclaimed run on Batman, before migrating over to the series We Are Robin. That series saw Duke and other young heroes pick up the mantle of Robin, but it wasn’t until the DC Rebirth era that he properly joined the Batman family, taking on his current identity of the Signal. Recently, he has been featured as a member of Black Lightning’s Outsiders team.

Batman Secret Files: The Signal #1 goes on sale July 6 from DC.
