Superman Celebrates ‘Infinite Hope’ With a Friends and Foes Variant


DC Comics recently unveiled a variant cover for Superman #29, featuring the Man of Steel standing alongside his chosen family, friend and foes.

DC Comics recently revealed Superman #29’s variant cover via Twitter, featuring the Man of Steel with various friends and foes.

“Infinite hope,” Superman’s Twitter captioned the post, referring to DC’s upcoming Infinite Frontier storyline. The variant cover for #29 was created by artist John Timms.

On the cover, Superman is shown standing with his son Jon and wife Lois Lane, alongside various allies, including Steel and Supergirl. Enemies of the Man of Steel also grace the cover, including the Red Cloud and the warlord Mongul. Flanking either side of the image are Superman’s archnemesis Lex Luthor and the hyperintelligent Brainiac.

Following Future State, writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson will take over writing Superman and Action Comics. Johnson will pen a two-part story called “The Golden Age” that spans Superman #29 and Action Comics #1029. Johnson will also write Superman during Future State, with Superman: Worlds At War, which turns the Man of Steel into a gladiator.

Beginning in March, Infinite Frontier will spin out of the events of Future State. The initiative will see new creative teams tackling DC’s ongoing titles, and launches with an oversized one-shot. In addition to the Johnson-helmed titles, Superman will also receive an anthology, Superman: Red and Blue.

Superman #29 is written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson with artwork by Phil Hester and Eric Gapstur. #29 also has a backup story, “Tales of Metropolis,” written by Sean Lewis (DC Future State: Superman of Metropolis) with artwork by Sami Basri (Harley Quinn).

Superman #29 goes on sale on March 9, 2021 from DC.
