DC Comics’ Batgirl #50 — which features the first appearance of The CW’s new Batwoman, Ryan Wilder — is getting a second printing next month.
Batgirl #50 — the final issue of DC Comics’ most recent mainline Batgirl title that also serves as the first appearance of Ryan Wilder, The CW’s new Batwoman — is officially going back for a second printing.
Per a post from the official DC Nation Twitter account, the second printing of Batgirl #50 features a new cover by Riley Rossmo and is slated to hit comic shops on Tuesday, Dec. 15. It’s not exactly surprising that the issue is heading back to the presses, as Batgirl #50’s status as Ryan Wilder’s first appearance has led to the comic selling fast, with copies being listed online at a considerable markup.
For those unfamiliar with the situation, The CW’s live-action Batwoman television series starred Ruby Rose as Kate Kane/Batwoman. Rose ultimately departed the role following the season’s conclusion, with Javicia Leslie boarding Season 2 as a new character named Ryan Wilder, who will take up the mantle of Batwoman when the series returns to The CW on Jan. 17, 2021. Less than a week before DC’s Batgirl finale hit shelves, it was announced that the issue would feature Ryan’s comic book debut.
Batgirl #50 itself (originally released on Oct. 27) follows the eponymous hero, Barbara Gordon, amid the aftermath of “The Joker War” story arc. “Gotham is left in pieces that need to be picked up by Barbara and Alejo’s team — but is Gotham a city worth saving anymore, and how much longer does our girl have it in her to keeping fighting for it as Batgirl?” the comic’s official synopsis reads “Then, if Barbara is to ever give her relationship with Jason a chance, she knows she has to face him and finally make amends with the act that crippled him.”
Written by Cecil Castellucci and illustrated by Emanuela Lupacchino, Marguerite Sauvage and Aneke, Batgirl #50 is available now from DC Comics. The second printing goes on sale Dec. 15.
