The Marvel Universe is filled with important monuments, from Avengers Mansion to Dr. Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum. But now, a new villain demolished Marvel’s oldest landmark: the iconic Baxter Building, home of Fantastic Four.
In Fantastic Four #25, by Dan Slott and R.B. Silva, a mysterious and powerful alien called “The Commorant” is charged with finding an unknown object of power on Earth. The Commorant’s employer, his “Helmsman,” is equally enigmatic, remaining as elusive as his objectives.
Carrying out his Helmsman’s orders, The Commorant steals several objects around the world, from ancient relics to new inventions. The only trait these items have in common is their concealment in stealth-shielded lockboxes. Eventually, The Commorant winds up in New York’s Latverian Embassy, setting his sights on one of Doctor Doom’s prized possessions. Of course, Doom is prepared, destroying the mysterious item before The Commorant can obtain it from the Latverian dictator. Immediately afterwards, The Commorant seeks another stealth-shielded lockbox — one owned by Reed Richards of The Fantastic Four.

Once again, the object within the box remains a mystery, yet it appears to be of immense power, sending The Fantastic Four out on an urgent mission to stop The Commorant. The alien heads straight for The Baxter Building where the lockbox has remained hidden for years.
Disregarding the building’s current residents, The Fantastix, The Commorant strikes hard. The alien menace levels the former headquarters of The Fantastic Four. Arriving too late, Marvel’s First Family is just in time to see their old home destroyed. The Fantastix barely survive, thanks to the building’s built-in pocket dimensions.
