In Giant Size X-Men: Storm #1, a powerful mutant just showed that she is as smart as she is powerful by solving a mystery that no one else could.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Giant-Size X-Men: Storm #1, by Jonathan Hickman, Russell Dauterman, Matt Wilson, VC’s Ariana Maher, and Tom Muller, on sale now.
As Giant-Size X-Men: Storm #1 opens, the X-Men are at their wit’s end. They’ve put their best minds to the task of curing the techno-organic virus that threatens to kill Storm. Beast, Forge, and all of the other big brains on Krakoa have tried and failed to find a cure for Storm’s infection.
Storm is resigned to her fate and subsequent resurrection. That is, until an unexpected savior appears with a plan to save one of the most important X-Men.
Monet St. Croix figures out that the key to saving Storm’s life is to take her to the World and separate the virus from her after they became intertwined. She and Storm travel to the World with Fantomex, Cypher, and an A.I.M. Scientist named Ned. She needs their help breaking into the artificial environment, accessing the equipment which will purge the virus from Storm’s body, and operating it.
While the plan doesn’t go off without a hitch, it is successful. The team is able to cure Storm and stave off a resurrection and return her to full strength. That should come in handy for the X-Men during the upcoming “X of Swords” event.
Monet might not be as well known as the X-Men’s other resident geniuses, but she deserves to stand among them. She has genius-level intelligence. She rarely joins the X-Men’s brain trust because she has too many powers to specialize.
Monet’s diverse range of abilities make her one of the most formidable mutants on Krakoa. She’s superhuman in all physical categories. Her power set includes super strength, speed, and invulnerability. It’s made her the heaviest hitter on many of the X-Teams she’s been a member of.
In addition to her physical strength, Monet also has psionic abilities. She’s able to levitate and even fly through sheer force of will. Her flight speeds can reach up to Mach 3. She also has limited telepathic and telekinetic abilities. They’re not on the level of Emma Frost or Jean Grey, but they served X-Factor well when she was a member of the team. She even has an eidetic memory.
