In the DC crossover “Trinity War,” three Justice Leagues went to war, but none of those teams walked away with a real win.
During the New 52 era, the Justice League, Justice League of America and Justice League Dark in the massive “Trinity War” crossover, a lengthy event by Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, Jeff Lemire and a host of other creators.
The battles stretched across multiple titles, starting in the pages of Johns and Reis’ Justice League #19 and wrapping up four issues later. In between, there were stops in the pages of Justice League Dark, Justice League of America, Constantine, and some crossover specific issues titled Trinity of Sin. With we’re taking a closer look at who all was involved, what happened and which League won.
Who Was Involved in Justice League: Trinity War?
The comic book crossover was titled “Trinity War,” which made one instantly think of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. While DC’s regular Trinity appeared in the center of this story, this story is centered around the three Justice League teams pulled into this massive war.
The Justice League was intent on protecting the world at all costs. Amanda Waller and Steve Trevor put together the Justice League of America as a force that could beat the Justice League if they grew out of control. These two teams started the war, while Wonder Woman ended up pulling the Justice League Dark into the battle.
The fighting was, at first, a case of heroes trying to one-up each other. Superman and Wonder Woman went into Khandaq to save some hostages held by political terrorists. However, this was a small moment that started the entire war, as the two of them working together made the world believe the Justice League was interfering in foreign affairs. Batman told them as much, and this caused Waller and Trevor to believe their Justice League of America was needed more than ever.
The entire intent of Waller and Trevor was to turn the public sentiment against the Justice League and make the world think they were dangerous. This happened the next time someone showed up in the same country. This time it was Shazam!, as Billy Batson wanted to spread the ashes of Black Adam over his home country and ended up starting an international incident. The Justice League showed up to confront him, and then the Justice League of America showed up as well to bring them all in.
