New behind-the-scenes artwork from Ryan Stegman show the most powerful Marvel hero will be involved in the King in Black miniseries.
One of the strongest beings in the Marvel Universe will appear in the Venom-centric event King In Black.
The miniseries’ artist Ryan Stegman posted a sketch to Twitter with features Robert Reynolds, aka the Sentry. Sentry is seen gazing out into the void of space, his cape flowing behind him. In the back, Stegman has written “BWS” which stands for “Black With Stars” — indicating that Reynolds is in deep space. “You aren’t ready,” Stegman wrote.
The Sentry bears “the power of a million exploding suns,” which grants him solar-based abilities similar to DC Comics’ Superman. However, Reynolds suffers from a split personality, which gave birth to the Void. The Void is darkness incarnate and serves as the Sentry’s archenemy. Sentry has acted as both friend and foe to the heroes of the Marvel Universe, even serving as a member of the Avengers.
Sentry previously appeared in Donny Cates and Gabriel Hernandez Walta’s Doctor Strange run. Doctor Strange enlisted the help of the Sentry to break into Asgard so that he could supercharge his magical abilities. This backfired when Strange ended up being possessed by the Void. An angry Reynolds told Strange to never contact him before flying off.
King In Black spins out of Cates’ run on Venom, and features the dark god Knull finally arriving to Earth. Cates and Stegman previously worked together on the Absolute Carnage miniseries, which also spun out of the current Venom run.
King in Black #1 goes on sale in December from Marvel Comics.
