The new Cyberpunk 2077 comic book gives readers a glimpse at a faction that will be an important part of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 video game.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Cyberpunk 2077: Trauma Team #1, by Cullen Bunn, Miguel Valderrama and Jason Wordie, on sale now.
Cyberpunk 2077: Trauma Team introduces one of the factions players will face in the upcoming game. The four-part series gives readers a glimpse into the futuristic and corporately owned world of developer CD Projekt Red’s newest game, Cyberpunk 2077.
In Cyberpunk 2077: Trauma Team #1, readers are thrust into the gritty reality of Night City through the eyes of Nadia, an employee of Trauma Team International (TTI), a paramedical ambulance corporation. Through Nadia’s flashbacks, readers see first hand what it takes to be a paramedic in the world of Cyberpunk. Nadia recounts the events of a medical evac alert in the district of Westbrook — one of the wealthiest sections of Night City where the elite call home — to a mysterious, unnamed woman. Nadia was part of a team with five other paramedical techs, and as she relives the nightmare of the Westbrook call, it is quickly revealed that Nadia was the only one to make it out alive.
The mysterious woman claims that it is her job to see if Nadia is ready to return to active duty after weeks away from TTI. As the two speak, readers are shown the gruesome details. Nadia’s team was called in to evacuate someone that is only referred to as a “platinum-level client” from a shootout taking place in the middle of a crowded street. The client is removed from a turned-over vehicle and tended to by Nadia and her teammate, Zander. As Nadia works, however, she watches in stunned silence as a cybernetically modified man jumps up to the Trauma Team hover vehicle and kills both pilots before looking Nadia in the eyes and smiling. Despite the horrific events, Nadia maintains her composure and is cleared for active duty after claiming her commitment to “the company.”
In the futuristic world of Cyberpunk, the world is owned by mega-corporations and the few wealthy elites that run them, and paramedic services are no exception. Trauma Team is a corporately owned entity that boasts itself as being the premium paramedical service with over a dozen Trauma Teams on call in any major city at any given time. With top of the line reviving and life support technology such a mobile cryotanks, it’s easy to see why so many choose Trauma Team in their time of need.
But like any good business, TTI does nothing for free. There are many different plans offered to customers — ranging from $500/month all the way to $34,000/month — and each comes with its own benefits. In the Cyberpunk 2020 edition of the game, the highest level was known as “high priority coverage” and touted an impressive 3-5 minute response time, but with the new Cyberpunk 2077 series, there appears to be a new level of TTI coverage: Platinum. The specific details of this membership are still unknown, but fans are sure to learn more about Trauma Team and Platinum members in the new quest, “Breaking Through.”
