Sailor Moon Returns to the Big Screen After 25 Years!

The first part of a new Sailor Moon movie, titled Sailor Moon Eternal, will open in Japan on Sept. 11, 2020!

This will be the franchise’s first theatrical outing since Sailor Moon Super S: The Movie back in 1995. Taking the place of a fourth season for the recent Sailor Moon Crystal TV anime, the new movie will adapt the Dead Moon arc of the original manga in two parts. The story kicks off on the day of the biggest eclipse in the century, when Pegasus/Helios suddenly appears in front of Usagi and Chibiusa for help.

Original author Takeuchi Naoko is supervising the film, and Kon Chiaki is to direct. Character design is by Tadano Kazuko, the script by Fudeyasu Kazuyuki, and animation by Toei Animation.

Part 1 of Sailor Moon Eternal opens at cinemas across Japan on Sept. 11, 2020.
