No, Dean/Michael Is Not Supernatural’s Main Villain This Season

Despite having his body taken over by the rogue archangel Michael in the Season 13 finale, the possessed Dean Winchester will not be the primary antagonist of Supernatural‘s Season 14.

While promoting last week’s return of the longrunning CW series, executive producer Eugenie Ross-Leming revealed that while the latest season starts with Michael as its main villain, a different threat will replace him for the majority of Season 14.

“Everybody has to find a way to undo Michael, who’s the super villain as we start out the year, but will not be the primary villain,” explained Ross-Leming in an interview with TVLine. “Basically, he feels humans are useless, worthless. They didn’t work in Apocalypse World, they’re not going to work in this world. So he believes monsters are straight-up. He knows who he’s dealing with, and he can manipulate them. But he learns a lesson.”

The season premiere picked up from the previous season’s cliffhanger ending as Sam Winchester searches for his missing brother while Michael uses Dean’s body to recruit an army of monsters to eradicate humanity. Despite the apocalyptic stakes from the outset, the executive producer hinted that Dean would have to deal with something far worse once he eventually regains control of his body.

“There’s something else that’s going to happen that will take a bigger toll on Dean,” teased Ross-Leming. “And he has to pay attention to that.”

Back on The CW for its fourteenth season, Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins. The longrunning series airs on Thursdays at 8 pm ET/PT.
