Kraven Screenwriter Says Spider-Man Will Appear in Film

Spider-Man may not have been in Sony’s Venom, but he will reportedly appear in Sony’s untitled Kraven the Hunter movie. While speaking with Discussing FilmKraven the Hunter screenwriter Richard Wenk claimed Sergei Kravinoff, a.k.a. Kraven the Hunter, will “come face-to-face with Spider-Man.”

Wenk mentioned that he’s still “just beginning the process” with the comic book movie project, but this comes as a major surprise because the web-slinger — who had a key role in Eddie Brock becoming Venom — played no role in the Lethal Protector’s new movie; however, Sergei becomes “Kraven the Hunter” well before he ever meets the wall-crawler in New York. Kraven would go on to become obsessed with Spider-Man after losing against him, but the famous hero did not play an essential part in the villain’s origin.

Wenk also stated his screenplay will “adhere very closely to the lore of Kraven the Hunter.” When asked if he’s looking to any comic book storylines for inspiration, the screenwriter replied that he’s looking at everything to “soak in” the Spider-Man villain, but he added, “What we’re all circling is the infamous ‘Kraven’s Last Hunt.’ Whether this is the precursor for that movie, whether we’ll include it… we’re talking about that.”

In the fan-favorite ‘Kraven’s Last Hunt” storyline, Sergei defeated Spider-Man, put on the hero’s suit and proved he was “superior,” then took his own life because he felt like he was finally at peace and had nothing left to accomplish.

Sony’s Kraven the Hunter film does not currently have a director or release date.
