After eight long years, Chris Evans is finally leaving Captain America behind.
When Evans took to Twitter on Thursday to confirm he had officially finished his work on Avengers 4, fans were forced to come to terms with the reality that Captain America’s time within the Marvel Cinematic Universe was nearly up — at least, with Evans donning the red, white and blue, that is. Like with Robert Downey Jr.’s casting as Iron Man, Evans’ casting as Captain America has been universally praised, so it’s unsurprising that fans decided to honor the actor as he leaves Cap behind for good.

SG Posters on Twitter unveiled a minimalist poster that thanks Evans for his work as the star-spangled hero, captioning it, “He will always be #CaptainAmerica.” The poster, which you can see below, shows a silhouetted Evans along with Cap’s iconic shield laying on the ground, with the words “Thank you, Chris Evans” printed on the solid white background.

While Evans’ casting as the hero was initially met with mixed reactions, the actor quickly proved he was the right choice for the role with 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Despite that film only taking in $370 million at the worldwide box office, each installment in the hero’s trilogy improved upon the other, with The Winter Soldier going on to earn $714 million worldwide and Civil War amassing an impressive $1.1 billion worldwide.
