Through such titles as Afterlife with Archie, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Jughead: The Hunger and Vampironica, Archie Comics’ horror series have received a good amount of attention over the last few years. The trend will continue in 2019 with the release of two more horror-based titles: Blossoms: 666 and Jughead: The Hunger Vs. Vampironica.
Blossoms: 666 is slated for a January 2019 launch, making it the first of these two new books to hit shelves. Written by Cullen Bunn (Star Wars: Darth Maul) with art by Laura Braga (DC Comics Bombshells) and Matt Herms (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), this five-issue limited series will revolve around twin siblings Cheryl and Jason Blossom, one of whom just so happens to be the Anti-Christ. The catch: they don’t know which one of them is actually the Anti-Christ, but they both want the title.

“Cullen really blew us away with his Omen-esque version of the twins,” Archie Comics Co-President Alex Segura said in a statement. “It’s dark, psychological horror at its finest, perfectly rendered by the amazing Laura Braga, who did an amazing job on the recent Harley & Ivy Meet Betty & Veronica crossover with DC.”
Cullen chimed in as well, adding, “This story focuses on two of my favorite characters—the Blossom Twins—and puts them in a story of very, very dark horror/comedy. Cheryl and Jason have always been troublemakers… One part The Omen, one part Cruel Intentions, all Archie! I think fans of the comics, fans of Riverdale, and fans of demonic horror in general are going to love this!”
Launching later in 2019 is Jughead: The Hunger Vs. Vampironica, written by Frank Tieri (Jughead: The Hunger, Wolverine) and illustrated by Pat and Tim Kennedy (The Death of Archie). This aptly titled Jughead: The Hunger/Vampironica crossover will follow these dark versions of two of Riverdale’s most notable residents as they engage in the age-old battle of werewolves versus vampires.
“In the world of Jughead: The Hunger, vampires do not exist, having been wiped out by the werewolves,” Frank Tieri said. “In the world of Vampironica, it’s the opposite… there are no werewolves, as vampires reign supreme. So what do you think will happen when these two worlds collide? All Hell breaks loose!”
