Charlie’s Angels Movie Reboot Starts Production

The Charlie’s Angels movie reboot has officially entered production.

Director and star Elizabeth Banks posted a photo of the clapper, signaling the start of principal photography on Monday. “Continuing the legacy of telling the story of three incredible women working together,” she wrote in the accompanying tweet.

This is only the latest incarnation of 1970s television crime drama about a trio of private investigators working for the mysterious, unseen Charlie Townsend to fight crime. The original was a pop-culture phenomenon that inspired two previous films, starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu, as well as a short-lived 2011 TV revival.

The new film stars Kristen Stewart (Personal Shopper), Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) and Ella Balinska (Room) as the titular Angels. Patrick Stewart (Green Room) and Banks will both appear as allies named Bosley. Unlike the other versions of the character, it seems that Bosley is now a title instead of a name, and is given to anyone who works directly for the mysterious Charlie.

Charlie’s Angels is scheduled for release on Sept. 27, 2019.
