Fate/Grand Order, the smartphone RPG spin-off to the Fate/stay night visual novel and franchise, has received an award for excellence in the Games of the Year division at Japan Game Awards 2018!
All games released onto the Japanese market between Apr. 1, 2017 and Mar. 31, 2018 were eligible for the awards. A shortlist was created by a general vote, from which the awards committee selected the winners.
The committee cited the game’s magnificent world-building and the strategic battle system utilizing Command Cards and skills, plus its distinctive characters and A-list voice cast as reasons for their decision.
Author Nasu Kinoko expressed his gratitude for being able to receive the award on behalf of the game’s creative team. Acknowledging that while FGO may have not broken any new ground in the RPG genre, Nasu felt that the award justified the team’s belief in strong story elements and once again thanked everyone who voted for the game for their careful consideration of its merits.
Other winners of the award for excellence included Nintendo’s Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey in addition to overseas titles like Call of Duty: WWII and Fortnite, with Capcom’s Monster Hunter: World ultimately taking the Grand Award.
