Daredevil has taken up a familiar perch in a new photo from Season 3. The latest look at the upcoming season shows Matt Murdock, dressed all in black, with his arm draped around a cross on a church rooftop.
“Matt starts the season broken physically, broken emotionally, and broken spiritually,” Season 3 showrunner Erik Oleson told Entertainment Weekly. “He’s angry at God, he’s angry at the fact that he had risked his life to do God’s work, and he’s questioning whether or not he was a fool.”

In the comics, Daredevil is often depicted with Christianity imagery. As a devout Catholic, his faith has long been a critical element of his character. As such, he has often been associated with crosses, particularly during times of anguish. It was particularly relevant to the classic “Born Again” storyline, from which Season 3 seems to be drawing inspiration. Per Oleson’s comment, Matt will definitely struggle with his faith in Season 3.

Unfortunately, Daredevil’s faith won’t be his only struggle in Season 3. He’ll also clash with his longtime friend Foggy Nelson. “Foggy has been trying to move on from Matt’s memory, or at least move on with his life,” Oleson teased. “If you thought one of your close friends was dead and he decided not to tell you he survived, you would probably have some issues with that.”

The season will also take Matt Murdock back to basics, as these new photos show him wearing his black costume from Season 1. In the photo below, though, he has added ropes around his knuckles and forearms.
Arriving Oct. 19 on Netflix, Daredevil Season 3 stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Joanne Whaley, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Wilson Bethel.
