Star Trek’s Bruce Greenwood Boards The Shining Sequel Doctor Sleep


The Shining is getting a sequel at Warner Bros., titled Doctor Sleep, and former Star Trek star Bruce Greenwood has been cast for the part of  Dr. John.

The character description is a secret for now, but Greenwood joins an ensemble cast including Ewan McGregor in the lead as an adult Danny Torrance, Supergirl’s Carl Lumbly, Alex Essoe, Zahn McClarnon, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Mission: Impossible – Fallout‘s Rebecca Ferguson and Kyleigh Curran as Abra Stone.

Doctor Sleep follows Danny Torrance in his 40’s struggling with alcohol and other demons like his father, Jack. Meanwhile, cult leader Rose The Hat (Ferguson) is after Abra Stone, who possesses the same mental abilities as McGregor’s Danny Torrance.

Bruce Greenwood starred as Pike in 2009’s Star Trek and 2013’s Star Trek: Into Darkness, both directed by JJ Abrams. He is also well-known for the DC Animated feature Batman: Under the Red Hood and boasts a flourishing four-decade acting career.

Based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, Doctor Sleep stars Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Carl Lumbly, Alex Essoe, and Zarn McClarnon. The adaptation is directed and co-written by Mike Flanagan (Oculus) and is scheduled to be released on January 24, 2020.
