DC has released the first look at Brian Michael Bendis’ first long-form Batman story, ever, a 12-part arc illustrated by Nick Derington that kicks off in Batman 100-Page Giant #3.
While the preview is a brief three pages, it’s enough for Bendis and Derington to place their stamp on the Dark Knight, with a second page sequence that serves as a clever homage to the Adam West incarnation of the Caped Crusader. Through the use of a classic nine-panel grid, Derington shows Batman scaling the side of a building, a common scene from the ’60s television series. Her, however, we see the limb from Batman’s point of view as he simultaneously converses with Alfred through his earpiece while interacting with the building’s residents.

In addition to bendis and Derington’s all-new story, Batman 100-Page Giant #3 features reprints of several Bat-stories of the past, including Jim Lee and Jeph Loeb’s “Batman: Hush.”
“Batman Universe,” by Bendis, Derrington, Dave Stewart and Josh Reed, is available exclusively at Walmart in Batman 100-page Giant #3, which goes on sale Sunday, Sept. 23. Teen Titans 100-Page Giant #3 arrives on the same day, and includes the latest chapter of “Enter… The Disruptor” by Dan Jurgens and Scot Eaton.
