Amell Teases New Costume for Arrowverse Crossover

Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen may be getting a new costume for this year’s Arrowverse crossover. On Twitter, the Arrow star announced the start of production with a photo that appears to show him getting fitted for a face mask.

“Officially started work on the crossover today,” he captioned the photo, which shows him sitting shirtless in a chair with green gel covering his nose and the bottom half of his face. His hair is also plastered to his scalp, with a blue line drawn across his forehead and temples. This seems to suggest he will wear a new helmet of some kind in the crossover.

Feels like a Friday…

Considering the Arrowverse’s propensity towards using doppelgangers from other worlds in the multiverse, it is unclear if such a costume would be worn by Earth-1’s Oliver Queen or some other version of him. However, at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz revealed that the show would introduce some new costumes for its characters in Season 7: “There are some new costumes. I can’t really tease anything else. I’m sorry! But you guys are going to be so excited.”

Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time Green Arrow has gotten a makeover on the show. Starting out, the self-appointed hero of Star City wore a green leather ensemble, complete with the soft fabric hood that once belonged to his mentor Yao Fei. In Season 4, he upgraded to a more armored look, with a more fluid green-and-black design and matching hood. This costume lost the sleeves and replaced them with shoulder pads and archer’s gauntlets, but gained plenty of pockets and holsters. Season 5’s costume ditched the shoulder pads and gauntlets, adding sleeves back in. However, this would be the first time his face is mostly covered by a costume, if that is indeed what this photo shows.

DCTV returns to The CW this fall with The Flash leading the charge on Tuesday, Oct. 9 with its Season 5 premiere at 8 pm ET/PT, followed by Season 2 of Black Lightning at 9 pm. Supergirl will follow the next week on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 8 pm, with Arrow the next day on Monday, Oct. 15 at 8 pm. Finally, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will return on Monday, Oct. 22 at 9 PM. The highly-anticipated crossover will air over three nights, starting on Sunday, Dec. 9 through Tuesday, Dec. 11.
